Nebraska Wesleyan University has an opening for a full-time Building Maintenance Technician.  This position will assist with various building maintenance projects.  This challenging position provides maintenance on many older buildings that need constant repair and upkeep.

Responsibilities

Provide physical labor on a variety of routine maintenance projects and to complete assigned projects from campus work order requests. Examples of some work order may include:

  • Heating and Air conditioning general maintenance, trouble shooting, and repairs.
  • Minor electrical-repair or replacements of devices, motors, outlets, lights, etc.
  • Repair or replace broken doors, windows, screens, and ceiling tiles.
  • Install structures and fixtures like fabricated cabinets, plastic laminated surfaces, windows, and molding.
  • Measure, cut, nail lumber, repair sheetrock and paneling, lay carpet tiles.
  • Construct frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes.
  • Hang pictures, mirrors, bulletin boards, clocks or handrails and suspended ceilings.
  • Build or remodel the interior and exterior of buildings to meet the required maintenance needs of the facility.
  • Review plans, measure, cut, and nail framed walls; attach sheetrock to the walls; tape seams; and apply texture, paint, wallpaper, or paneling.
  • Account for equipment, tools and supplies and verifies the disbursement of items and supplies.
  • Complete written work orders by ensuring the listing of materials, parts, and labor used on the job.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition by keeping them clean, oiled, and sharpened.
  • Work as part of team to remove ice and snow from sidewalks and parking lots during winter months.
  • Perform other work as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Competitive applicants will have a variety of skills in all-phases of maintenance, HVAC, and electrical work.
  • Experience using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, calculate volume and use precise measurements.
  • Possess good hand-eye coordination.
  • Be detail oriented when performing tasks.
  • Must be able to use problem solving skills to complete a variety of maintenance tasks and adjust project plans accordingly.
  • Ability to perform work with prolonged standing, bending, and working in cramped areas and working on roofs, from ladders, man-lifts and on scaffolding at various heights.
  • Ability to do physical work, including lifting, climbing, regular use of stairs and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Candidates must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Working knowledge of computers for tasks including reading email, logging hours, and entering work order information is necessary.
  • This position will require the possession of or the ability to obtain a valid driver's license.

Will be required to work on call outside of regular hours.
